Miami is a popular vacation destination for so many reasons. The warm sun, gorgeous beaches, vivid colors, stylish people, glamorous nightlife and of course–  amazing Cuban food and Latin musical influence! If you are looking for a unique and very sophisticated theme, are having a summer quinceanera, and love Miami–consider a Miami Nights theme for your quinceanera~

How to create a Miami Nights Quinceanera Theme

In my opinion, the most important elements you will need to create a Miami theme are:

1. Colorful Lighting: Lighting alone is the single most important feature for your Miami Nights party.  Lighting will turn your event from ordinary to spectacular and create the atmosphere you are looking for.  Let the colorful lounges and clubs of Miami serve as your inspiration.  Think white for your tables and chairs, and colorful, lighted walls and focal points.  Your venue should have the ability to dim the lights so that you can create this nighttime atmosphere.

How much lighting you do does depend on your budget.  As always you will need to shop around, and prioritize your budget for what you consider the most important for your theme.

If you have a huge budget, you may have the ability to have tons of lighting all around your venue.  However, if you have a more “realistic” budget, consider having really great lighting in one or two focal places, such as behind the head table or the dance floor.

2. Latin Music:  While the lighting will really help visually establish a Miami vibe, playing Latin music will complete the effect for your party.  It is especially important for when your guests are arriving. Later on, after all the formal dances and traditional ceremonies are completed, you will want to hear the music that you and your friends and family really like!

3. Taste of Miami:  So you have appealed to your guests senses with lighting and music, the last thing you can do is offer up a taste of Miami.  How about setting out trays of empanadas, tostones, or even chips and salsa or guacamole?  Anther idea? Miami is world-renowned for its fabulous nightlife.  What if you set up a station with a signature non-alcoholic beverage, served in a plastic martini glass? Check out this recipes I found for alcohol-free drinks, including a raspberry spritzer or a peach cooler.

Color Scheme: I really like pink, blue and white for a Miami Nights theme, but there are many choices for color scheme options.  To me, a Miami theme should have plenty of white and pops of color.  The color you choose to go with the white is really up to you because Miami is a super colorful city.  Other combinations to consider: Neon colors;  yellow, green and orange; white and gold; or purple, turquoise and pink.

Venue: A venue that is sophisticated–or can be made to look that way, would be best. It would be nice to have indoor/outdoor access.  A Miami-themed party would also be nice under a large, white tent–and a tent may be easier to achieve a dramatic lighting effect~

Invitations: It may be a little difficult to find an exact Miami-themed invitation to match this theme.  But that’s ok–go with an invitation that you like, in your quinceanera colors. Use your wording to make sure your guests know they are coming to a Miami Nights themed event.

The Dress: Any dress you like should go nicely with this quince theme.  Something modern in a bold color would be lovely. I can also  see a long dress with a shorter skirt under it fitting in well with this theme.

Quince Court: You want your court to look glamourous and modern.  Chambelanes in all white would be nice. Consider adding a pop of your colors to their outfits, with bow ties or vests.  Select dresses for your damas in your color scheme, and make sure they complement you and your dress nicely. If you choose white and gold for your colors, and you have a gold dress, have your damas wear white dresses with gold accessories.

Decorations: When considering your decorations for any theme, it is always best to brainstorm a list of keywords related to the theme.  Beach, sand, birds, palm trees, Art Deco, South Beach, nightlife, vibrant colors, Cuban food, colorful lighting, etc.  This will give you ideas on items to look for or items to make yourself.

Keep in mind a Miami themed party is supposed to be more stylish than beach-y.  You can still incorporate beach elements into your party but let South Beach lounges and night spots be your main influence~ 🙂

White tables and possibly white chair covers will provide a nice base for pops of color here and there.  For centerpieces, keep it simple and go with something like candles or simple  plant centerpieces. Instead of table numbers, name the tables instead. Make fun signs with the names of  famous streets or places in Miami. Examples: “Ocean Drive”, “Little Havana”, “Collins Ave”, “Fontainebleau Beach Resort” and “Intracoastal Waterway”.

Entertainment: Whether you have a DJ or band, you definitely want to incorporate Cuban sounds such as Rumba, Mambo and Son. Here is a list of popular Cuban sounds. Again, I think playing Cuban sounds as your guests arrive will help create the Miami vibe for your quince~ As the night moves on and after all of the quinceanera formalities are complete, that is when you want to make sure all of your favorite music is being played~

The Cake: You have many options with your cake for a Miami theme.  You can order a traditional cake or a cupcake tower in your theme colors. Or, you could create a dessert table with Cuban-inspired treats like flan, arroz con leche, polvorónes and other treats (Check out this awesome Pinterest board for more ideas!)

Party Favors: Keep it simple and make your guests favor bags filled with gummy fish, or another treat.

Special Touches: Ask your guests to wear all-white, this will make your party have a very sophisticated feel.  In your invitations you can call it your “All-White Miami Nights Quinceanera”, and request that your guests wear white.

Another special touch would be to have “Sparklers“. Distribute sparklers to your guests and have them hold the sparklers as you make your grand entrance into your reception!

I hope this helps you plan your own Miami Nights themed quinceanera!  As you can see, pulling off this theme includes special details like lighting, music, food, and other Miami-related special touches. What ideas do you have to make the perfect Miami theme?

  8. I really like this theme but my birthday is in December and I was thinking on having red and gold into my colors , how can I use this theme but have those colors ? Please help .

    1. Hi, you can still have this theme and use gold and red as your colors. Say, for example, you want to use exotic palm tree leaves as part of your decoration. You could spray paint them gold and that would look really awesome, still look like a Miami theme, but in your color. So if you do lighting, maybe red instead of neon colors. As long as you have some Miami-type music and food, I think you could definitely pull off this theme in your colors! Does anybody have any other ideas for this? Sarah
