Dama Dresses!

The second best thing to finding your quince dress? Finding the perfect dama dresses for your court! You want your ladies to look lovely, feel great, and match your quinceanera theme. It can be a little tricky,  and finding dama dresses that please and flatter all of your damas may take some effort.

Here are a few things to consider when looking for dama dresses:

    • Flattering please!: Just like a bride has to keep her bridesmaids in mind while picking their dresses, a quinceanera must be mindful of her court. Is there a style that will flatter all the damas? It is important they are comfortable in their dresses and hopefully they like them, too! Another option: select different dresses for each dama but in the same color for everyone. This is a popular trend with bridesmaids, and it will work very well with damas, too!

Blue dama dresses would work well with many quince themes~
    • Age-appropriate: Everyone’s parents are different. Some may be a little uncomfortable with a dress that’s a touch too short, tight, or revealing in any way. Make sure that your dresses are not only super-cute, but appropriate for everyone in your court.
    • Budget: Each dama/her parents will be responsible for buying her own dress. So, you will want to pass on dresses that are super expensive, or rival the cost of your own dress. The wonderful news is that there are PLENTY of options available for under $100-$150–and sometimes the price is even way less.
    • Look around: While your dress will likely be from a formal shop, you have way more options for dama dresses. Check out the formal sections of department stores or even other stores at the mall. The challenge may be finding enough of one dress. Some stores, such as Macy’s, may be able to order dresses for you if needed. Or, it may not be traditional to buy your dama dresses at, say, Dress Barn. But they have some really cute stuff in there that would be really pretty as dama dresses. Expand your options and you may find your dresses where you least expect it.

  • Online: See what’s available online. Buy only from a reputable online store/business. Have someone who is familiar taking measurements measure your damas so that you can select the proper sizes.
  • Theme: Your quince theme is super important to consider when considering dama dresses. Your theme will steer you in the right direction of color, style, length and so on. Note: the dresses are an awesome way to incorporate your theme into your party right from the mass!
  • Trust Yourself!: You don’t have to do what is traditional or expected. For example, most dama dresses you see are traditionally above the knee. If you really like long dresses or high-low, don’t be afraid to deviate from the norm.

Have confidence (and patience!) and you will be on your way to picking out the best dresses for your court. One final word of advice: try to only involve one or two people in your dress selection. If you were to involve your whole court, it would likely be pretty hard to decide on one dress. Happy dama dress hunting!

  5. Hello , I’m having a quince next year and we’re already planning but it’s hard. I don’t want a dark colored party or theme but I also don’t want it to be too girly. Do you have any unique themes you think that would go for me ? My dress is most likely going to be gold or champagne and I need help deciding what the chambelanes and damas colors should be but no black for the tuxedos.

  6. Hey, well I’m planning my quinces. My dress is red with gold, I don’t know what color to do for my court, I think my decorations will be red, white, and gold.. Please give me some ideas for my court.. Thanks !

  7. Hello my daughter’s quince is next summer and she chose a white dress. But we are having a hard time figuring out what is a good color scheme or theme and colors of the dama dresses. The only color she had mentioned was rose gold or light pink. Not sure if maybe I should do a princess theme and incorporate colors that go with her all white dress.

  8. Hi, well I’m planning my quince and its in April. My color theme is blush, white, and gold. My dress is going to be blush pink with tiny gold accents, and I need help with what color I should get the damas dresses because I don’t want them to get the same color as me

    1. I think white would be a really nice choice for your damas. You could also go with gold dresses. If you add another color to your theme you could also go with that color. Example: navy blue. Navy is gorgeous with blush, white and gold. You definitely don’t need another color though! I hope this helps, Sarah

  9. hello,

I am planning a sweet sixteen and a quince for my daughters since they are close in age. any suggestions on color dress choices?

    1. That sounds really fun! You could either go with coordinating colors, or opposites, maybe. Coordinating like silver and gold; pink and purple; light blue and dark blue, for example. You could also go with opposites, like black and white; or a solid and a print dress. It kind of depends on what colors and designs they like. I would definitely say 2 different colors. Or, maybe a long dress for the 15 and the shorter version for the 16? Hmmmmmm….Sarah

  10. Hi.. I am planning my daughters Alice in Wonderland Quinceanero Theme NEXT MONTH and are having a huge challenge . Her dress is 2 piece – light blue.. like the one you have below.. Her decoration colors are white, black, gold with some red.. her centerpieces have will have her pop of colors that will be magenta and ocean blue..
Now we are having trouble picking what color for my court! For the girls and for the boys. we really like the vintage look but not sure if it will look good .. PLEASE HELP — What do you think ?

  11. Hi! I am planning my daughters quinseañera. Her dress is like the cinderella movie and the color is sky blue with a very thin and hardly noticeable layer of purple. We are having trouble picking what color for my court! For the girls and for the boys. Any ideas?
    Thank you

    1. For Cinerella, I really LOVE pairing the Cinderella blue with WHITE. The colors look so pretty together. I like the idea of putting the court in white. Damas, white; and chambelanes, either white or grey. Chambelan de honor, all white 🙂 Sarah

  12. Hi im having my dress in the color coral and i dont want anybody to know the color , which color should my damas and chambelanes get ?!

    1. Good idea! Coral would look really pretty with navy blue, white, gold, or mint green, in my opinion. So say you go with navy, your damas could wear navy dresses and your chambelanes can go with navy for their ties/accesories (cumberbund if your using or vest). I hope this helps! Sarah

  13. Hello! I am trying to plan my daughters Quince and am struggling with choosing her Damas dress choices.
Her dress is a light purple sweetheart with layers of taffeta or tulle. The bodice has silver and purple rhinestone like decor in what looks like line paths.
Her theme is “A Night in Paris” and her colors are light purple, royal(dark) blue, and silver with some small light pink accents/embellishments.
So what would you suggest for the Damas gowns? Her damas will be a variety of heights and body types. Would a Hi-Low be a safe cut? Short? Long? Color?
    Anything really helps.

    1. Hi! I would say royal blue or light pink for the dama dresses. It depends if she wants a lighter look or darker look. I think a high low could definitely be a great option. Sometimes short can get too short on some or the same with long dresses, some of those get too long! I think mid length (like mid calf) can be unflattering in general for most body types. Here’s a few dress examples I think might work for most body types:
http://shrsl.com/?~crmo (the color Flamingo looks like a pretty light pink shade)
https://www.houseofbrides.com/bella-bridesmaids-by-venus-bridesmaid-dress-style-bm1828-p-4-361-120047.aspx (this comes in lots of colors)
      I hope this helps!

  14. Hi, I’m Jasmin i have a quesion for you? I don”t know what to put on the guys for a suprise dance and the girls??? My theme is butterflies with aqua blue and white. Any ideas.

  15. Okay so my quince is in June and my dress is a coral color but I don’t really have a theme yet but I’m trying to think of a color that the damas should wear to look good with my dress. Any suggestions on what color they should wear and a theme I should pick?

  16. Okay so I’m having a enchanted forest theme for my quince and I’m not sure what color scheme to go for with my dress and my Damas. I usually have a hard time picking dresses because of my skin tone. I’m really tan. If you could help that would be great.

    1. How about something peachy or light color? Lilac, baby blue and peach all look really pretty with tan skin. You could put your damas in whichever coordinating color you like with your color 🙂 Sarah

  17. My quince is going to be candy themed because although my birthday is 3 days before Halloween I am doing it on Halloween because it is that upcoming Saturday. the theme colors are blush pink, purple and silver, but it being so close, I just told my damas to get their own dress with assigned colours(2silver,1purple,and 2 pink), instead of them all getting the same style of dress. I’m just concerned if this is going to look ok, if they all have different styles, but matching colors. thank you

    1. Hi, going with different colors for damas will be nice with a candy theme. I think if you go with different colored dresses, have them in the same style. If you go with one color for your dresses, then go with different styles. This will prevent it from looking mismatched if you go with one way or the other. Does this make sense? Sarah

  18. Hi! My theme is going to be cinderella and my dress is sky blue with a very thin and hardly noticeable layer of purple. I’m having trouble picking what color for my court! Any ideas?

    1. Sounds really pretty. How about white or silver dresses? If you wanted to go with soft pink that would be really pretty too 🙂 Sarah

  19. Hi I’m having a sweet sixteen do you know how many can be in my court and my dress is going to be ruby red idk what color the damas should be ?

    1. Hi, I don’t think there’s a set #, even for quinces I have seen it vary, I’ve seen some young ladies have a HUGE court like 15 of each but I believe it’s traditional to have 7 of each–7 damas, 7 chambelanes. Ruby red sounds very pretty! Red is lovely with white, gold, black, silver or even purple. I would pick your color scheme and put your damas in the other color, say, white. Sarah

  20. my quince dress is going to be blushed light pink and the theme of my party is gold/pink/silver classy theme so what color dresses should my damas wear?
    thanks-
    arden

    1. Hi Arden, I would put your damas in either gold, silver, or a combination of both. You could also alternate the gold and silver dresses! For the chambelanes, you can incorporate these colors in with either black or white suits, or even tan suits. Sarah ~

      1. Depending on what colors you go with, it’s possible for your chambelanes to wear black, white or grey. It depends if you want a softer look or a more striking look~ Sarah

    1. Here’s a couple ideas for hot pink:
      1. Hot pink, deep purple and blue
      2. Hot pink, black
      3. Hot pink, black, and a print (zebra, damask print, stripes, etc)
      4. Hot pink, silver
      5. Hot pink, white
      6. Hot pink, orange and yellow

I hope this helps–hot pink actually looks great with a lot of colors! Sarah

  21. Hi, I am having a quince and my dress is a very light pink with some white/ sliver sparkles. I dont know what color should my damas wear.

    1. I like silver for damas, especially if your dress is pink and has some silver in it. White dresses would also be very pretty. You might also consider grey for your chambelanes. Sarah

  22. Hi Sarah!
I am starting to organize my nieces 15 & i know for a fact she wants her dress to be purple (darkish bright)! I was thinking of talking to her about doing a butterfly theme party? what do you think?

Also if we go along with this butterfly theme, I was thinking what color dresses would her dam as wear, & what about her chambelanes… I think they will decide on tuxes, but would know if they should do grey, or white… I know black would not really fit into it, well i don’t know, what do you think? & how about her chambelan de honor?

Hope to hear from you soon!
    Thanks!

    1. Hi, my niece actually had a butterfly theme, I think it’s a beautiful and classic choice. Her dress was also fuschia, and her colors were fuschia, purple and aqua blue. Those colors are really pretty together and give you lots of options for decorating. Her damas wore aqua blue dresses; purple dresses would also be a very nice option. Her chambelanes wore black tuxes and her chambelan de honor wore white to stand out.

Other colors that go with fuschia: fuschia and silver; fuschia and light pink (so like a range of pinks); fuschia, grey and silver; fuschia and orange. I think fuschia would go nice with white or grey suits for a butterfly theme because they are softer than a black suit. And even if all the guys have the same suit/tux, make the chambelan de honor stand out with different color tie/cummerbund. I hope this helps! Sarah

      1. Yes it did help. THe only thing i am wondering is if her dress is purple than her would the aqua blue go well for her damas? the quinceneras dress is not pink/fuschia, her dress is actually going to be purple.

        1. I have seen purple and aqua paired up, but you could also make the damas pink/fuschia which I think would be really pretty! Sarah

  23. If my dress is going to be a mint color what color should my damas wear , this is for a quince 🙂 ?

    1. I’m a big fan of the mint, coral and gold color combo, I even did a post on it. You can also do mint and white, mint and silver, mint and gold. Pink is also very pretty with mint! Sarah

  24. What can my damas wear if my theme is Paris and my dress is blush pink with like light silver ?

    1. Hi, is your dress mainly pink or mainly silver? I like the idea of going with the opposite for damas so they complement you. So if your dress is primarily pink, I would put the damas in silver. Another idea is to go with pink, silver and grey, this way they would wear grey and silver dresses, and I think this would be a ery nice color scheme for a Paris theme 🙂 Sarah

    1. Good question! I would put the boys in something traditional suit (jacket, long sleeved shirt, dress slacks, tie or bow tie). You can also add a vest if you want — or maybe just for your chambelan de honor. A lot of times, I have seen the chambelan de honor dressed a bit fancier than the rest of the guys, so that he stands out. I think white suits go really well with a princess theme, along with ties to match your dress color.

      Sarah

  25. This helped a lot but you said that it works best with only one or two people but I also don’t want my damas to be mad if they don’t like the dress. I also don’t like it when there are different dresses. What should I do?

    1. Hi Naomi,
I know what you’re saying, you don’t want to disappoint anyone and that’s really understandable. It is also possible if you involve all of your damas in the dress decision, they may be able to agree on one dress. But if they cannot agree on one dress, it could become really messy! Maybe you and your damas could plan a little shopping date, where you will go and just look at dresses. It would be fun, and you could see the styles they like and don’t like.

Remember that it is your quince, and it is perfectly OK for you to play a BIG part in selecting your damas dresses. The quinces I have seen or been involved in, the quinceanera and her mom (or other family member) played the biggest part in picking out the dama dresses.

One last tip is select a dress that you would actually like to wear if you were one of your damas. I think you will do just fine, just trust yourself! Good luck!

      ~Sarah
